Bushings and Auger Seals

Bushings and Auger Seals are some of the most important parts of a Slushie Machine to maintain.  They typically require lubrication with food grade lubricants and replacing every 12 months.  

Bushings serve as critical wear-and-tear components that keep the Slushie Machine drive mechanism running smoothly. Positioned where the rotating auger (the spiral mixing blade) connects to the drive shaft, they serve three essential functions:

• Preventing Metal-on-Plastic Wear: The auger constantly rotates over a stationary metal cylinder to scrape frozen product. Bushings act as a low-friction barrier so the moving shaft doesn't grind down internal components.

• Protecting Liquid Seals: A worn bushing creates wobble in the shaft. This uneven movement degrades the shaft seal, eventually allowing Slushie mix to leak straight back into the electric gear motor.

• Reducing Noise and Motor Strain: Smooth bushing rotation keeps the motor from overworking under heavy ice loads and stops loud grinding or squealing noises during operation.

Because they take the brunt of constant friction and varying temperatures, bushings naturally wear down over time and are one of the most frequently replaced parts in routine service kits.

We recommend keeping a full kit or parts for easy maintenance if replacements are necessary.  This prevents any machine downtime. 

Proper lubrication is critical to extending the life of your bushings. Always apply food-grade lubricant strictly according to your owner’s manual or laminated guide. For most of the Slushie machines we sell and service, use 5 mL (1 tsp) for each auger seal and 2 mL on all secondary lube points.
